An indy grab is an aerial skateboarding and snowboarding trick during which the rider grabs the middle of his board, between his feet, on the side of the board where his toes are pointing.

Indy grab has become a generic skateboarding trick that has been performed since the 1970s. This trick is performed mainly while vert skating e.g. on halfpipes. Although this move can be done on flat land, it is much easier on a ramp. This grab trick is one of the basic tricks in vert skating and is usually combined with spins, kickflips and heelflips.

The originating trick is called an Indy Air— an aerial maneuver invented by skateboarder Duane Peters and popularized by Tony Alva. The trick involves doing a backside air while gripping one's board on the toe side, between the feet with the trailing hand. The Indy, which started off as Alva catching vert air out of a pool became more widespread in existence after it was displayed and gained more public knowledge from skater to skater. And thus, variations have come into existence as skaters push the limits of creativity and physical extertion. One of the most popular variations is the Kickflip Indy.

Improperly, and incorrectly, the term indy grab came about because of a lack of knowledge of the distinction between an Indy air and a frontside air.

The use of the name as just the name for the grab is something of a misnomer. Partly due to its being named in this way in the Tony Hawk's Pro Skater video game series, many people now call grabbing this way an indy grab regardless of which direction the air is performed, and even if it is performed without turning!
