Computer Science and Engineering is the discipline formed by the union of Computer Science (CS) and Computer Engineering (CE), sometimes abbreviated to CS&E.
A special task force of the ACM, while investigating what should be included in CS academic cursuses came to the conclusion that it would not make sense to separate CS from CE. They come to the conclusion that any CS cursus should include the study of CE aspects, and reciprociquely. The also propose to take the convention of calling CS&E the discipline of computing.
The University of California, Irvine adopted an undergraduate CSE major in 2004. The major incorporates both the lower-division classes of Computer Science and Computer Engineering and a selection of the upper-division courses. The major is jointly offered by the School of Information and Computer Science and the Henry Samueli School of Engineering.
The University of Texas at Arlington also offers both undergraduate and graduate programs majoring in CSE. The major is offered by the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, a division of the UTA College of Engineering.
